6500만 년 전 잠들어 있던 티렉스와 우연히 교감에 성공한 소년 ‘진’은 지구방위군단을 육성하는 디아머 아카데미에 특례입학하게 된다. 티렉스와의 교감 훈련부터 조종 훈련, 가상 전추 훈련 등 다양한 훈련을 하며 디아머의 소양을 갖춰 나간다.
하지만, 처음 하는 교육인 만큼 쉽지만은 않다. 다른 디아머 링커들인 세나, 용후, 아인과 팀을 이뤄 이터널 코어를 이용해 지구를 정복하려는 기계공룡제국에 맞서 지상 최대의 전투를 벌인다. 애니메이션 <아머드 사우루스: 기계공룡제국의 침략>은 2021년 시즌 1과 2022년 시즌2로 이어진 TV시리즈 ‘아머드 사우루스’의 극장판으로 초대형 공룡과 로봇의 합체를 볼 수 있어 흥미롭다.
‘아머드 사우루스’ 시즌 2는 2022 대한민국 콘텐츠 대상 애니메이션 부문 한국콘텐츠진흥원장상을 수상하며 대중성과 작품성을 모두 잡은 콘텐츠로 인정받았다. 뿐만 아니라, 투모로우바이투게더(TXT), 오마이걸 효정&유빈 등 대한민국을 대표하는 인기 아이돌들이 주제곡 가창에 참여해 뜨거운 화제를 불러일으켰다. 또한, 극장판 애니메이션 <아머드 사우루스: 기계공룡제국의 침략>는 대원미디어와 스튜디오 이온에서 제작한 100% 국내 기술과 자본으로 만들어졌다. 다양한 시각 효과로 TV화면에서보다 풍부한 볼거리를 제공한다. 대형화면의 이점이 있다면 반대로 수준 높은 영화 관람객들의 구미를 당길 만큼의 기술력이 되지 못해 아쉬움을 남긴다. 화면 합성 등이 확연히 보여 큰 아쉬움이 남는다. 하지만, 10대 링커들의 공룡과 나누는 교감과 일상은 훈련임에도 훈훈함을 자아낸다.
특례입학한 진이 친구들과 우정을 나누며 훈련하는 모습과 티렉스와의 교감하면서 차츰 디아머로 성장하는 모습은 작은 감동도 준다. 화려한 비주얼을 자랑하는 아머드 사우루스와 교감하며 진행하는 전투는 팀워크를 확인할 수 있어 더욱 뜻깊은 느낌으로 다가온다. 거기에 육식공룡이자 최고 포식자 티렉스부터 거대한 몸집의 초식 공룡 트리케라톱스, 하늘의 지배자 프테라노돈, 작지만 날쌘 무리 공룡 랩터까지 등장해 아이들의 상상력을 자극하기에 충분하다. 전투의 화려함에 비해 자극적이지 않아 아이들에게 보여주기 부담 없는 것도 장점이다. 공룡과 10대 아이들이 지구 방위를 위해 전투를 펼치는 애니메이션 <아머드 사우루스: 기계공룡제국의 침략>는 오는 20일 개봉한다.

65 million years ago, a boy named Jin accidentally formed a bond with a slumbering T-Rex. As a result, he was granted special admission to Diarmor Academy, an institution dedicated to nurturing the Earth Defense Corps. Through various training programs, including bonding exercises with the T-Rex, piloting drills, and virtual combat training, Jin developed the skills necessary to become a Diarmor.
However, the training was not easy, especially since it was his first time. Alongside fellow Diarmor Linkers Sena, Yonghu, and Ain, Jin faced the greatest battle on Earth against the Mechanical Dinosaur Empire, which aimed to conquer the planet using the Eternal Core. The animation "Armored Saurus: Invasion of the Mechanical Dinosaur Empire" is a movie adaptation of the TV series "Armored Saurus," which aired its first season in 2021 and the second season in 2022. The series is known for showcasing the exciting fusion of giant dinosaurs and robots.
"Armored Saurus" Season 2 was recognized for its popularity and artistic value, winning the Animation Division Award from the President of the Korea Creative Content Agency at the 2022 Korea Content Awards. Additionally, the theme songs were performed by popular K-pop idols such as Tomorrow X Together (TXT) and Hyojung & Yubin of Oh My Girl, generating significant buzz. The movie "Armored Saurus: Invasion of the Mechanical Dinosaur Empire" was produced entirely with domestic technology and capital by Daewon Media and Studio EON. The film offers richer visual experiences with a variety of special effects compared to the TV series, although it falls short of appealing to high-standard moviegoers due to noticeable compositing flaws. Despite these shortcomings, the interactions between the teenage Linkers and their dinosaurs, even during training, evoke a sense of warmth.
Jin's journey as he bonds with his friends and grows into a Diarmor through his connection with the T-Rex is both touching and inspiring. The visually stunning battles involving the Armored Saurus, showcasing teamwork and coordination, add depth to the narrative. The film also features a variety of dinosaurs, from the ferocious T-Rex, the ultimate predator, to the massive herbivore Triceratops, the aerial Pteranodon, and the swift pack-hunting Raptors, stimulating children's imaginations. The non-overstimulating nature of the battle scenes makes the movie suitable for children. "Armored Saurus: Invasion of the Mechanical Dinosaur Empire," an animation about dinosaurs and teenagers fighting to protect the Earth, will be released on the 20th.
